Silicon Valley Innovation Center – Prototyping Class

I was asked to teach prototyping at the Silicon Valley Innovation Center to a group of students visiting from Astana, Kazakhstan – the students had so many different ideas that they wanted to test out! Everything from designing semi-trucks, to smartphone holders, to footwear.

Storyboarding is a great way to get a team on the same page – I asked each group of students to storyboard a user’s experience with their product showing how they would get their desired outcome.

Modelmaking is fun! I brought along a bag filled with foamcore, hot glue guns, and other supplies for the students to put to use. I enjoyed teaching the students to use their models as a tool to learn about their designs instead of a polished end-product.
